Did you know… the deadline for businesses and financial institutions to file T4s with the CRA is past the date for when we can begin e-filing your personal income tax return? If you’re thinking we can get all of your information from the CRA before the middle of April, think again! The T4 deadline is the end of February and if T4s are paper-filed by an employer, it can take up to 6 months for the CRA to have them verified.
So! Bring in ALL your documents for us to review and add in to get the most accurate return for you.
Some important dates to remember this tax season are:
February 19 – Canada Revenue Agency e-file desk official opens
February 28 – Last day for Employers to file T4s
March 1 – Last day to contribute to RRSP’s to be counted on your Tax Return
April 20 – Our GUARANTEED deadline
April 30 – Last day to file for all individuals. Last day to file if you operated a business and have a balance owing
June 15 – Last day to file if you operated a business and will have NO balance owing
REMEMBER! If you want us to GUARANTEE to have your taxes filed prior to April 30, you must bring us ALL of your documents by April 20.
RRSP Contributions made within the first 60 days of the current year are claimed on your taxes filed in the prior year? If you were to contribute to an RRSP in February of 2020, it would be claimed on your income tax for 2019. Make sure you bring those RRSP receipts in with you so they can be claimed!
Now you can get your paperwork to us after hours so we can help keep you CRA compliant!
At the request of several clients, we have a secure drop box to the North side of our building. Simply drive down the alley and you will see a single door with a drop box slot next to it. We ask that you put your paperwork in a sealed envelope with your name and/or your company name cleared printed on it.
The drop box slot will accommodate legal size or letter size envelopes up to approximately 2.5 inches thick.
Remember, if you do not give us adequate time to complete the work, the filing cannot happen on time. Depending on the amount of work required, we may need anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to complete it. If you would like us to let you know how much time it will take for your work, stop in and talk to us, give us a call, or send us an email.
These days most individuals and even some businesses like to do most of their payments online. We have found this to be true with a number of our clients and so we are offering this as an option. We will happily accept e-transfers and we are now also offering Monthly Payment Plans to our Clients with whom we do monthly or quarterly bookkeeping, payroll and reporting.
If you would like to make use of either of these payment options now or in the future, please feel free to contact our office.
We will be closed on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, for a day of training. All of our staff will be participating in it so we can continue to provide you with the best service possible. We will re-open on November 13, 2019, at 9:00am for all of your bookkeeping needs.
Did you know… in order to claim vehicle expenses and mileage you need a start and a finish to your odometer reading?
On January 1st, snap a picture of the odometer in your vehicles and send it to your bookkeeper or accountant. Then keep a mileage log, or ask us about electronic logs, during the year of all your business trips including locations and clients. Snap another picture the following January and voila! We’ve got start and finish odometer readings where we can calculate your personal versus business vehicle expenses and mileage!
Take a breath. Enjoy the moments. It’s that time of year again where our summer hours will be coming into effect. Beginning July 1st until September 3rd we will be closed on Fridays. We will continue to remain open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Thursday except holidays.
